Howard Jones held his 25th Anniversary concert in September 2008 to celebrate 25 years in music; the concert was held at the indigoO2 arena. In preparation for the concert, I was commissioned to produce a promotional trailer which would be broadcast at the arena itself and on his YouTube channel, to advertise the forthcoming event.
Howard Jones record company, dtox Records, was extremely happy with the final result, so they further commission me to produce three further videos which would be shown at the actual concert itself; at the very start and during the two intermissions that were in the set schedule.
Collaborating with the webmaster of howardjones.com (Glenn Kelly), we fleshed out our creative ideas and produced some compelling videos for the show. Below you will find the final videos that were actually produced and shown.
*EDIT: I have been informed by Mr Kelly that the intermission videos that we created were not used at the concert. Instead, videos to promote Howard Jones merchandise were used. I have therefore left the videos online for entertainment purposes and for the fans.
The promotional trailer
The promotional trailer used to advertise the concert was broadcast as a looped video at the indigoO2 arena. The idea was simple, show a clip from a music video, then a live performance, and then repeat. Soft dissolve transitions were used within the cut. Please note: there is no sound in this video.
’25’ – The introduction video
This video was shown at the very beginning of the concert to attract peoples attention. To do this, a Howard Jones dance track was used (For You, See Me, available from iTunes) and all the Howard Jones music videos were shown back-2-back in quick succession. This was to quickly illustrate the ’25 years in music’ and as it had a quick series of images, it also attracted the human eye. After that, the first music video was shown for a nostalgic effect. The video also had to be a required length of five minutes.
Intermission video number 1
The first video to be shown during the first intermission was rare footage and TV performances of Howard Jones. Unfortunately, some of the footage is grainy because the source material was a VHS recording from the 1980s.
Intermission video number 2
The second video during the next intermission showed fans other rare footage and TV performances that were not shown in the first intermission video.
